Despite decades of dysfunctional politics, small signs of progress in 2025 give reason for hope heading into 2026 — from Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene's apology for past behavior, to Maryland Republican leaders declining to use a crude nickname for Gov. Wes Moore, to a New Jersey congressional candidate avoiding hyperbolic messaging. Hope matters because its absence is what pushes otherwise good people to give in to cynicism and keep participating in a destructive political culture.
